Eleanor Ringel spent 28 years as movie critic for The Atlanta Journal and Constitution and has been a regular contributor to CNN, MSNBC and Entertainment Weekly.

    Alice in Wonderland

    With the release of the latest adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, Eleanor Ringel explains her reservations about Tim Burton’s adaptation of this Lewis Carrol classic. In addition, Eleanor explains the history behind the many film adaptations dating all the way back to 1903.

    Alice in Wonderland (1903)

    The first-ever film version of Lewis Carroll's tale has recently been restored by the BFI National Archive from severely damaged materials. With a running time of just 12 minutes (8 of which survive), Alice in Wonderland was the longest film produced in England at that time.

    Alice in Wonderland (Paramount, 1933)

    This version of Alice in Wonderland, dubbed "The Entertainment Miracle of All Times" by Paramount, featured such stars as WC Fields, Cary Grant, Charles Ruggles and Gary Cooper, shown in this clip as "The Awkward Knight."

    Alice in Wonderland (Disney, 1951)

    Certainly the most well known version of Alice in Wonderland, this version had been in the works since the late 1920s. This version presents Alice as a much more likable character than the book does.
