Paste celebrates the birthday week of two songwriting giants, Leonard Cohen and Bruce Springsteen. To honor their birthdays and musical achievements, Paste plays covers of their songs by The Hold Steady, Patti Griffin, Steve Earle, Nick Cave, and the Pixies. This episode of “Signs of Life” opens with Ani DiFranco’s “Smiling Underneath” as featured in Issue 49. That issue was also the “She and Him” issue, their album then regarded as Paste’s album of the year, and also Paste’s first issue that looked at fashion and lifestyle.
