An Ideal Husband
Original Air Date: 02-19-2010
For this episode of On Stage, Larry Larson moves into the theatrical world of Oscar Wilde’s “An Ideal Husband.” Wilde wrote “An Ideal Husband” at the age of 41. “An Ideal Husband” is a story of blackmale, ex-lovers, lobbyists, social status and the Suez Canal. The play opened at the Haymarket Theater in January 1895, the play ran for 124 performances. Like similar large productions of the 20th Century, “An Ideal Husband” featured a cast of 15. This large cast showed the booming economy of the theater, unlike today’s theater environment where casts must be scaled down out of necessity
